Liffey Joy, a mixed media artist born in the UK in 1990, uses materials such as ink and salt to create monochromatic works. She graduated from the Michaelis School of Fine Art in 2011 and practices in Cape Town, South Africa.

Her work focuses on materiality and makes uses of multiple media. She veers towards using those with unpredictable characteristics; embracing the unknown and playing with these chemical, and sometimes seemingly alchemical, reactions.

Growth and decay feature in the way she uses these media and this echoes the changing nature of the substances used to show these opposing forces.

By using organic processes and centring on natural subject matter these works highlight the universal conditions of vulnerability and sense of fragility and that link all living things.
